Education

Graduate of an AMA approved Physician Assistant program and successful completion of the National Certification examination through the National Commission of Physician Assistants. Licensed by the State Board of Medicine in Arkansas. ACLS certification required.

Experience

Surgical, orthopedic, hand surgery, emergency department, inpatient, or perioperative experience preferred. First-assist experience preferred.

Normal hospital, operating room, and emergency department environment. Exposure to biological hazards. Frequent exposure to unpleasant odors. Close eye work. Hearing of normal and soft tones. Distinguish smells. Distinguish temperatures by touch and proximity. May be exposed to airborne and infectious materials. Required to stand for long periods of time in surgery, walk, sit, push and pull, use fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. Reach with hands and arms. Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.

  • JOB SUMMARY
    • The Hand & Wrist Center Physician Assistant provides dedicated surgical, hospital, and emergency department support for the Hand Surgeon. The position will primarily support the physician in the operating room as first assistant, complete inpatient and
      postoperative rounds, evaluate emergency department and other hospital consults, perform appropriate minor procedures within scope and
      privileges, and assist with perioperative and inpatient follow-up care.
      Provides patient services under the direct supervision and responsibility of the supervising hand surgeon with primary responsibilities in the operating room, hospital, and emergency department. The role is focused on surgical, inpatient, perioperative, and emergency department support. Responsibilities include assisting in the operating room and serving as first assistant for surgical procedures, participating in hospital rounds, evaluating emergency department and other hospital consults, performing appropriate minor procedures within approved scope of practice and privileges, and providing perioperative and inpatient follow-up care for surgical patients. The physician assistant obtains medical and personal histories, performs examinations, orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies, develops and implements treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising hand surgeon, and provides counseling and education to patients and families. Attendance is an essential function of this job. This position requires the ability to utilize independent judgment within the physician assistant scope of practice and established organizational policies.
