The Electrical Controls Designer plays a critical role in the development and maintenance of electrical panel designs and schematics. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and managing electrical cabinet designs and schematics. Working closely with Controls Engineering and Panel Shop leadership, this individual is responsible for providing accurate and timely panel designs that meet the design criteria. This role is also responsible for assisting other designers with ensuring that all designs conform to safety standards and guidelines. Leadership will look for individuals in this role to learn the standards and processes for electrical design and how to efficiently utilize the EPLAN software suite to assist with electrical design and schematic maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintaining standards for electrical design and panel wiring
• Support the creation and verification of BOMs for electrical panels
• Help with component selection based on guidance from senior designers and engineers
• Assist in creating electrical panel designs and system schematics with oversight from senior designers and engineers
• Update and maintain a library of components, macros, and reports in EPLAN
• Learn and utilize EPLAN software for electrical design with a focus on standardization throughout the design process
• Assist panel builders with building and troubleshooting of electrical panels
• Regularly communicate with engineering and panel shop team members to understand and ensure adherence to processes
• Assist in performing quality audits to ensure the accuracy of panel builds
• Continually seek out learning opportunities related to your role to ensure you’re knowledgeable about new technologies and products

Qualifications

• 0-2 years of experience with industrial control panel design
• Basic familiarity with EPLAN (P8/Pro Panel) is preferred
• Basic understanding of communication architectures such as Ethernet IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, etc.
• Basic knowledge of Safety Integrity Levels (SILs) and safety categories
• Electrical installation experience is a plus
• Basic knowledge of PLC programming and programming theory is a plus
• Basic understanding of UL508A certification and NFPA 79 standards
• Basic knowledge of load calculations for 3-phase and single-phase applications
• Basic knowledge of NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code)
• Familiarity with industry standards such as IEC, IEEE, and NEC

Education

Associate’s degree in electrical engineering, Control Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
