Position Summary

The Mechanic Technician plays a crucial role in diagnosing, repairing, recording, and maintaining the cooperative fleet and machinery. This role utilizes tools to identify issues and performs inspections to ensure the fleet meets standards and regulations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Repair and Maintenance

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks.

  • Perform repairs on engines, brakes, transmissions, and other components.

  • Replace or repair faulty parts and components.


Diagnostic and Inspection

  • Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify mechanical, electrical, and other issues in vehicles.

  • Conduct thorough inspections to pinpoint problems.

  • Conduct safety inspections to ensure vehicles meet regulatory standards.

  • Identify and report any potential safety hazards.


Other Related Duties

  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and inspections.

  • Document parts used, labor hours, and diagnostic findings.

  • Coordinate with other mechanics and automotive professionals to troubleshoot complex issues.

  • Recommend improvements that can be made in practices, methods, processes, and procedures within the area of this job responsibility.

  • Will properly use and keep in good condition all tools and equipment.

  • Attend safety meetings.


Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Three (3) years of experience in a mechanic role.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their uses, repair, and maintenance.

  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic principles and systems.

  • Knowledge of Electric Vehicles.

  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations.

  • Skill in fixing minor vehicle body damage.

  • Skill in fabrication for reading and using tape measure, chop saw, and welding.

  • Skill in repairing and troubleshooting to identify issues and develop resolutions.

  • Skill in equipment maintenance to determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed.

  • Skill and proficiency in the use of computers, copiers, calculators, and Microsoft Office Platforms.

  • Skill in analytical and critical thinking for analyzing complex problems, evaluating options, and developing resolutions.

  • Skill in equipment selection for determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to perform a job.

  • Skill in verbal and written communication.

  • Skill in time management, organization, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to prioritize the completion of multiple, time-sensitive tasks, and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals.

  • Ability to use various tools and equipment relevant to the area of this job responsibility.

  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues efficiently.

  • Ability to communicate in both oral and written form with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to understand, interpret, and observe Craighead Electric policies, procedures, programs, and safety rules and regulations to effectively carry out job duties.


Special Requirements

  • Must have a valid Driver's License.

  • Ability to obtain an Arkansas Commercial Driver's license within six (6) months of employment.

  • Ability to obtain Forklift certification within 6 months of employment.

  • Will be subject to 24-hour call out.

  • May be subject to on-call rotation.

  • Must be able to travel.


Working Conditions and Mental or Physical Requirements

The following characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions; continuously exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, work in high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. Work is generally performed indoors and outdoors and in all types of weather. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear; and frequently required to climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; continuously lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; and depth perception.
