The Development Officer is a key part of the Development Team that is responsible for seeking, writing, and managing grants; writing and distributing press releases; managing media relations; organizing and scheduling social media content; writing newsletters; creating email campaigns; managing donor relations; graphic design/advertising; compiling annual reports; and website management.
Roles & Responsibilities
Social Media
- Coordinate with staff to make weekly posts utilizing appropriate social media to increase awareness of the Food Bank and its mission.
- Use graphic design skills to create advertisements and graphics to be used across all platforms.
- Manage paid digital media relations including using report analytics to inform decisions and design for digital ads.
Email Campaigns
- In cooperation with the Development Team, create monthly email solicitations coinciding with direct mail plan.
- In cooperation with the Development Team, create other email solicitations as needed for events, holidays, etc.
Newsletters & Annual Reports
- In cooperation with the Development Team, create themes for newsletters.
- Serve as lead content writer for newsletter articles, conducting interviews and obtaining photos and photo releases for newsletters.
- Design printed and electronic newsletters to keep the public informed of organizational progress. Post newsletter to website.
- In cooperation with the Development Team, create an annual report including key accomplishments, required financial information, and key metrics for nonprofit rating sites.
Website
- Manage website, coordinate content, and update information as needed.
Grants
- Develop and implement a grant writing plan, in conjunction with the Development Team, that focuses on a variety of grants to support programs and activities outlined in the organization's strategic plan.
- Regularly monitor each aspect of the grant writing plan, in conjunction with the Development Team; evaluate overall success.
- Maintain regular contact with grant foundations.
- Complete grant applications as outlined by budget and strategic plan. Complete timely grant reports as required by grant agreements.
- Coordinate with various Food Bank staff to obtain the necessary information, statistics, and budget for all aspects of the grant before submitting it to the Development Team for review.
Press Releases
- In cooperation with the Development Team, write press releases as needed regarding grants, programs, and research information.
- Distribute press releases to applicable media.
- Serve as media contact and organizer for interview requests.
Public Speaking
- Make presentations to groups that will increase the public awareness of the organization.
- Maintain and steward a portfolio of mid-level and major donors.
Other Duties
- Prepare and update collateral materials for the CEO when needed.
- Attend meetings and trainings, as necessary.
- Attend Chamber of Commerce events and participate on committees that are beneficial to the mission of the Food Bank.
- Maintain appearance of office.
- Prepare other reports as needed.
- Adhere to all Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas policies and procedures.
- Follow and enforce AIB processes and procedures.
- Complete monthly AIB inspection forms assigned to you.
- Fulfill job duties as outlined in the Food Bank's Disaster Plan.

Qualifications & Education Requirements
- Computer experience required with knowledge of Microsoft Office Products and graphic design.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required, with public presentation experience.
- Ability to work at a fast pace with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work with diverse populations.
- Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Business, or related field.
- Background check required (covered by Food Bank).
Preferred Skills
- Experience in media relations, social networking, and grant writing.
